Leaflets

How to create Leaflets (Written and Video Guides)

Introduction

For some assignments, you may be asked to create a leaflet, in most cases, you will be using PowerPoint to create these leaflets and below, you will find the templates you can use, which have already been laid out with the correct size and guide lines.

  Template Download

  Bi-fold Leaflet Template (PowerPoint file)

  Tri-fold Leaflet Template (PowerPoint file)

Uploading to OneDrive (For Chromebook users)

Note: You only need to follow these steps if you have a Chromebook, it is highly recommended to use the desktop version of PowerPoint for both Windows and Mac if you are able to when working on assignments.

(If you have access to the desktop version of Office, please scroll to the next section about using the template)

If you are a chromebook user, you unfortunately will not be able to open the file immediately, however, you can still use the template by uploading it to your student OneDrive.

First, download either the bi-fold or tri-fold template from the links above, and then click 'Show in folder' after it downloads. (Minimise the window or click back to Chrome after the download window displays)

On the screenshot, there is a red box and a red arrow pointing and highlighting both the Bi-fold and Tri-fold leaflet template download. Finally, there is a notification on Chrome OS saying that the download is complete, and there is a green box and a green arrow pointing and highlighting the 'Show in folder' link.

Log into the MyUni portal and click 'Office 365', when Office 365 opens, click the 3x3 grid of dots in the top-left corner to display a list of apps. Click on 'OneDrive'.

Next, when OneDrive launches, click on 'My Files' on the left side menu.

When you have loaded the 'My files' section on OneDrive, click the folder icon at the bottom middle of your screen to display your downloads folder and then locate the downloaded PowerPoint file. After doing so, drag and drop the PowerPoint file into your OneDrive.

Hint: You may need to resize your downloads folder so that you can see both your web browser and downloads folder at the same time.

The downloads folder is shrunk down and towards the bottom-right of the screen, with Google Chrome appearing behind it. There is a red box and a red arrow pointing and highlighting the folder icon located at the bottom middle of the Chrome OS taskbar. Finally, there is a red arrow pointing up at the location of the Tri-fold leaflet in the downloads folder which has been highlighted by the mouse.

Note: If you have any folders, drop the file around the outside of the white space, as you may accidently upload it to a folder if you drop it on top of a folder.

After uploading the file, you will receive a message at the bottom of the screen to say that the file has been uploaded successfully.

A red box and a red arrow pointing and highlighting the successful upload message on the online version of OneDrive, which has a green tick and text that says 'Uploaded Trifold Leaflet with Guides to My files'.

Scroll through your list of files on OneDrive until you locate the file, when you do, click on it to open it on the online version of PowerPoint.

You are now ready to start using the template, when you scroll down to the next step, please note that you do not need to 'Enable Editing' as it will already be ready for you! You can simply scroll to the next part which is 'Understanding the order of the template'.

Using the Template

Enabling Editing

Note: You may not need to 'Enable Editing' if you are on a Mac. If there is no button/option to do so, you may skip to the next step below.

After downloading the template and opening it, you will need to 'Enable Editing', which will allow you to make changes and edit the file.

Understanding the order of the template

After you enable editing, you may be wondering what order your leaflet pages will be in, below, we have included some screenshots that show some page numbers and arrows to indicate the direction.

  • Start from the 'Title Page' (which is Page 1)
  • Then head to 'Slide 2' and start from the left, which will be Page 2, 3, and 4 (on the Trifold template)
  • Finally, head back to 'Slide 1', and from the left, you will then have pages 5 and 6.

A screenshot of the first slide of the 'Trifold' leaflet, which has the numbers 5, 6, and 1, along the top of the template, and the words 'Title Page' on the far right panel, at the bottom of the screenshot, there are two red arrows pointing to the right, with the red arrow to the far left saying 'From Slide 2', to indicate that you return to Slide 1 after adding content to Slide 2, this is on the desktop version of PowerPoint for Windows.

An image of Slide 2:

A screenshot of the first slide of the 'Trifold' leaflet, which has the numbers 2, 3, and 4, along the top of the template, and a red arrow pointing to the right which stretches across all 3 parts of a leaflet. There is text to the left of the arrow that says 'From slide 1' which indicates that after starting on the title page, you need to click onto 'Slide 2' and continue following to the right. Finally, there is text to the right of the arrow that says 'Back to slide 1', to indicate that after finishing the design of slide 2, you need to move back to slide 1 to complete the last few pages.

If you would like to create page numbers, insert a rectangle/square (Head to the 'Insert' tab and click on 'Shapes', then choose and draw a shape) double-click on the created shape and type in your page number.

A screenshot of the 'Insert' menu which is currently open and selected on the desktop version of PowerPoint for Windows, which is beeing highlighted and pointed at by a green box and a green arrow. Another green box and green arrow is pointing and highlighting the 'Shapes' option within the 'Insert' menu, which has been clicked and expanded. A green arrow is pointing at the rectangle shape option. Finally, a green arrow is pointing at a dark blue square which is in the top left of the title page, with the number '1' inside, to show an example of a page number.

After creating one of these page numbers, you can copy and paste it across the leaflet, by either using CTRL+C (CMD+C on a Mac) to copy, and then CTRL+V (CMD+V on a Mac) to paste.

Or, you can right-click and use the 'Copy' and 'Paste' options.

Next Steps: You are now ready to start designing your Leaflet, if you need support in using the tools in PowerPoint, please see our video guides listed below that walk through each of the tools. Keep in mind that despite the guides being for 'PowerPoint presentations' the tools are still the same for leaflets so the same instructions apply.

Video Guides

Hint: We have designed our video guides to be quick to follow, however, we understand if you don't want to/need to watch the entire thing, so you can skip to specific parts of the video without feeling lost.
Please Explain: Above each video, you will be told how long the entire video is, and what times specific sections of the video are at (including how long that part is) so that you can skip around if needed.
