Journal Articles
Journals are academic magazines and just as magazines have articles, so do Journals.
These Journal articles are generally shorter than a book chapter and focused on a specific subject.
Journals can also be called periodicals. This is because they are published throughout the year at different times. Some Journals may be published every month and some will be 4 times a year.
There are several factors that link journals used at university
- Peer Reviewed- The articles go through a rigorous process to be accepted by the journal and are reviewed by experts in the field to ensure that a high standard of research is being maintained.
- Latest Information - Journal articles contain the latest information on a subject. If you are studying a subject area that requires you to find information in the last 5 years ,journals are the ideal resource.
The library has physical copies of journals that you can access, however the majority of journals are available online. When you search through Resource Finder, the results will be a mixture of resources including journal articles.
Journal articles are an essential resource for your studies.
Finding articles on Resource Finder
Finding eJournals / Browzine
eJournals are found through a general keyword search on Resource Finder. They will be in the results alongside books.
At the top of the Resource Finder screen, you will see a tab called "Find eJournals". If you click on this it will take you through to a database called "Browzine"
Browzine separates journals into subject areas. You can go directly to your subject and browse the eJournals we subscribe to. You are able to save your individual articles or complete journals on your virtual book cases. You have 4 book cases each with 4 shelves. You can name the shelves and move resources between shelves and book cases.
If you were to spend an hour browsing Browzine and adding information to your book cases the next time you log in you could go directly there.
On the Home page of Resource Finder if you scroll down the page you will find "Other Databases" . Once you have clicked on this you will see a range of subject specific databases each one allows you to search for journal articles.
Physical Journals
Physical journals are print copies of journals. We have a small collection of physical journals in the library.
Physical journals are for Reference use only and are therefore not loanable. However, some of our physical journals are also available online to view via Resource Finder.
To search for a physical journal on Resource Finder, type the journal title into the Search box. If the journal title does not appear in the results, select 'Held by library' from the drop-down arrow next to Availability on the right hand side of the page. If the journal is available physically, there will be a link saying 'Available at Wexham Wrexham print journal'. From here you will be able to see which issues we have in stock.
Current Journal Collection
Current issues of our physical journals are located on the ground floor of the library. Previous or back issues of physical journals can be found on the second floor of the library.
