Using your Reading List

You will be expected to read a wide variety of material to support your academic writing. Knowing where to start can be daunting when faced with a large amount of information. The best place to start is with your reading list. Your reading list for each module provides essential and background reading relevant to your subject area. A reading list includes books, articles and other resources recommended by your lecturer.

Your reading list will include resources listed as essential and recommended reading.

  • Essential reading are resources that your lecturer has specifically directed you to read.
  • Recommended reading are resources that will help you to develop an understanding of your subject area and provide background information.

Your reading list can be found in your Module Handbook. It can also be found on your module page on the VLE - Moodle or Canvas -  and on Resource Finder.

Using the Library

The University has a large collection of print books as well as providing access to thousands of eBooks and journal articles. You can use Resource Finder to help you locate physical books in the Library and access eBooks.

Locating physical books in the Library at Wrexham Campus

The books are organised in numerical order. All the books in the library have a spine label consisting of numbers and letters to help you locate items on the shelves.

The majority of books can be found on the first and second floors of the Library.
Books numbered 001 - 499 are on the first floor.
Books numbered 500 - 999 are on the second floor.

At the end of each bay of shelving is a shelf guide. This will tell you the numbers of the books and the subjects you will find in that area.

Our collection of fiction can be found on the ground floor of the Library.

Borrowing books

  • You will need your Student ID card to borrow books
  • You can borrow 10 books at a time
  • Borrow or return a book at the self-issue machine or the Inform Service Desk
  • Books are issued for a period of 1 week or 3 weeks
